Las Vegas, 1967 The Copa Room at the Sands Hotel, know as the home of Sinatra and his pals, is packed to overflowing with an elegant crowd. It's 2 A.M. Up on stage a handsome young Italian is playing the piano and singing the hippest version of "The Lady Is A Tramp" that the crowd has ever heard. He leaps to his feet for the big finish; the crowd goes wild, leaping to their feet to cheer him on.

Palm Springs, 2008. The cabaret room of the towns most successful dinner club. It's 9 P.M. The room is full, a mixed crowd, 18 to 80. On stage at the piano a world weary but handsome older Italian launches in to his opening number. It's "Around The World," that timid little music box standard but there is nothing timid about his version. It's a supersonic jet blast around the world with no stops along the way. Just a few bars into the song, smiling his thousand-watt smile the crowd are completely his. After all, he and his stunning wife also own this splendid nightspot.

Over sixty-five albums to his name, gold records, five wives and a lifetime of touring the world from the little clubs in his tough hometown of South Philly to the London Palladium, for a royal command performance, he has seen it all.

His name is Buddy Greco, perhaps one of the most talented and under appreciated entertainers of the last fifty years. Buddy Greco is the original swingin' hipster. His masculine ultra aggressive singing style, perfect pitch and distinctive piano playing make him a one of a kind master performer.

Sammy Davis Jnr once said of Buddy

 "Buddy Greco's world is a swinging world. Whether he is singing,
playing the piano, writing music or writing the arrangement - the world
of Buddy Greco is a very, very swinging world.” And he should know!
 Pick up any one of his albums and play any song. On the album 'Lets Love', for instance, hear how he turns the little children's nursery ditty, "Lets All Sing Like The Birdies Sing," into a testosterone charged swingin' blast! On his version of "They All Laughed" from "Buddy's Back In Town (Columbia)," the hilarious new lyrics he has thrown in give the song a fresh new Greco energy. Then listen to "It's A Beautiful Evening" on the "Big Bands And Ballads"  (Reprise) album, a soft ballad with lush strings in which Buddy manages to tame his masculinity just enough to seduce any woman within ear shot. Of course no Greco listening session can be complete without playing any one of several versions he has recorded of "The Lady Is A Tramp." His biggest number one hit, this song defines what Buddy Greco is all about. Just listening to it, however, will only give you half of the definition. You must see Greco perform it live to get the whole story. Fortunately, he still does it along with all of his other hits with bookings all over the world. To see him perform is like watching a prizefighter in the ring. Greco swings with his whole body when he delivers a song. Even when he is seated at the piano you can see it. No Jerry Lee Lewis antics here, but rather an intense aggressive energy combined with a pure love for entertaining and an over abundance of charisma that drives every Greco performance forward.

In these days of recycled oldies and reborn crooners such as Michael Buble and Robbie Williams cashing in on the trendy young crowds infatuation with all things that were once "hip and groovy' isn't it time to recognize and enjoy a true original?
